How the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® Upgrade Works
Step 1: Evaluate
Contact us, and we will refer you to one of our highly trained Home Performance contractors. The contractor will talk with you about your concerns and the improvements you would like to see.

| Contractors use diagnostic tools such as the infrared camera to assess the performance of the house. |
Next, the contractor will test your home. Our Home Performance contractors are highly trained experts in building science principles, using specialized instrumentation to detect the root causes of your home’s problems. Afterward, the contractor will describe the current condition of your home and how it can be improved.
Step 2: Your Upgrade Options
You will receive a homeowner’s report summarizing test results and explaining technical terms and concepts. The report will also include a list of improvement recommendations and costs. Your Home Performance contractor will help you determine which improvements will optimize the performance of your house, so you can choose the improvements that meet your specific needs. The Home Performance with ENERGY STAR upgrade options are designed to work together to achieve year-round indoor comfort while maximizing the efficiency of your home’s energy systems. These options can include air sealing, insulation, and duct improvements to prevent excessive indoor hot and cold zones. A Home Performance with ENERGY STAR upgrade also can include improving the size and operation of your appliances to cut down on excessive energy loss during operation.
Step 3: Improve
If you decide to invest in the suggested improvements, your Home Performance contractor will perform the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Upgrade. Our contractors are specially trained and certified in national Home Performance with ENERGY STAR standards which use the best practices and materials in all work done on your home. After the contractor makes improvements on your home, you can expect immediate improvements in comfort and energy efficiency.
Step 4: Verify Results
Once the work is completed, the contractor will run another set of tests to verify that the condition of your home has been improved. You will receive a Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Upgrade completion report that shows you before and after numbers that help to quantify your house’s actual performance improvements.
Our Follow-up Procedures
CBPCA will follow-up with a random sample of Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Upgrade customers to ensure that CBPCA Home Performance contractors consistently provide high quality upgrades. After your work is completed, your Home Performance contractor or a CBPCA staff member may contact you to schedule a free follow-up visit to inspect the work. You may also be contacted to complete a short CBPCA Customer Survey. We encourage homeowners that have undergone a Home Performance job to participate in the CBPCA verification process. A trained CBPCA verifier will come to your home to assess the work already completed at your home. If any of the contracted work was not completed to our standards, we will ask the contractor to fix the problem for you.
If you ever have any feedback for your contractor or CBPCA, please feel to contact either or both of us.
