Helpful Upgrade Tips
In order to make your Home Performance assessment and work go smoothly, we offer the following tips to help you through the process.
Before your contractor visits :
- Make a list of your home’s symptoms—just like a visit to the doctor. For example, you should let your contractor know about;
- Which rooms are too hot/too cold compared to the rest of the house,
- Rooms with musty/other odors and when/where they appear.
- Heater/air conditioners that frequently turn on and off when trying to heat/cool your home
- Family member allergies / breathing problems when at home
- High energy bills
- Appliances and electronics that are used frequently, including those in the backyard (ex: fountain, pool, or spa), garage, bedrooms, family/bonus rooms, etc.
- Provide a copy of your energy bills for the past twelve months. The contractor uses your energy use history to diagnose how various Home Performance measures can help reduce your utility bills.
The more your Home Performance contractor knows about your home’s symptoms and year-round utility bills, the more effective a plan he or she can prepare for fixing the problems. You know your home best, and more information
you can provide, the more accure a diagnosis for solving your home’s energy, comfort, and air quality problems.
